A Heading widget adds a formatted line of text to a dashboard. Think of a signpost between groups of widgets. The text can carry a live value, such as today's date or the viewer's first name, inserted as dynamic text.
Here is the test: does a long dashboard need its sections named? If yes, put a Heading above each group. For a block of paragraphs, use a Text Block widget. For a colored strip with buttons, use a Simple Banner widget.
Example: the Vendor risk overview opens with a Heading whose content reads Vendor risk overview in the Heading 1 style, followed by the dynamic text Current Date in Small Text. A second Heading, Findings, sits above the findings widgets.
The Vendor risk overview heading with today's date under it, above the first row of widgets.

Adding a Heading widget
Set the View | Edit switch in the upper right to Edit.
Select + Add Widget in the toolbar. The Add New Widget sidebar opens on the right with a Search Widget box and thirteen collapsible categories. Page Display is open to start.
Open Page Display and select the Heading card. Its info icon reads "Displays a block of formatted text".
The Heading modal opens: a preview on the left, the settings on the right, and Cancel and Add Widget at the foot. Write the content, then select Add Widget.
The widget lands on the dashboard. Drag it by its handle to move it.
The General tab
The modal has one tab, General, with two sections.
Heading
Title is the widget's own name, shown in its header. It is prefilled with "Heading"; the placeholder reads "Enter title...". Description is a switch, off to start. Turn it on and a text box appears with its own toolbar (bold, italic, underline, text color, highlight, link, bullet list, numbered list). Two tabs choose where it shows: As A Tooltip or Below The Title. Below The Title is selected to start.
Content
The heading text, in a rich-text editor with a floating toolbar of fourteen controls. Text Style, Bold, Italic, Underline and Strikethrough come first. Then Text Align, Text Color, Highlight Color and Code. Then Add Link, Quote, Bulleted List, Numbered List and Insert Checklist. An Add dynamic text button sits at the end.
Text Style lists nine sizes: Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Heading 4, Extra Large Text, Large Text, Medium Text, Small Text and CAPTION. The preview on the left shows the text at the chosen style.
Tip: Use one style for the page title and one smaller style for every section heading. More than two sizes on one dashboard reads as noise.
The Heading modal with the Content editor, its toolbar and the Text Style list open.
Dynamic text
Dynamic text is a placeholder the dashboard replaces with a live value for each viewer. Select Add dynamic text and pick from the Insert list. It holds ten values: Current Date, Current Time, Member Company, Member Department and Member First Name. Then Member Full Name, Member Last Name, Member Role, Member Type and Workspace Name. The value is inserted as a chip in the text.
The Simple Banner and Hero widgets have the same button and the same ten values.
Note: A chip is rendered for the person looking at the dashboard. Two members see two different first names on the same heading.
The Insert list open from Add dynamic text, with Current Date highlighted and a Member First Name chip already in the text.
Permissions
Solution Managers and members with Full Access add and change widgets on a public dashboard. The owner does so on a private one. Every member who can open the dashboard sees the heading. See Dashboard Settings. A shared read-only page shows it too; see Public Dashboard Sharing.
Using the widget
In View mode the heading is text, with the description as a line under the title or as a tooltip on the info icon. A link opens in the browser. A chip shows its live value and updates on each load.
A Filter widget and a Record Selector do not change a Heading. It holds no records.
The widget shows in the SmartSuite mobile app for iOS and Android.
Editing a Heading widget
In Edit mode, hover over the widget and select Edit in the strip that appears above it. The modal reopens; change the content and select Save Changes at the foot. Cancel after a change asks "Are you sure you want to exit without saving the changes you made?", with Exit Without Saving and Save Changes.
The strip also holds a drag handle, Move Up, Move Down and the three-dot More Options menu: Minimize, Highlight Color, Duplicate Widget, Delete Widget and Collapsed by Default. See Manage widgets on a dashboard.
