Working with SmartDoc Images

Adding a new Image

There are two ways to add images to your SmartDoc, the slash-command menu and by drag-and-drop.

Adding and image from the slash-command menu:

  1. Type a / character at the start of a new line or after a space

  2. Type all or part of the word image or scroll to the item with your mouse (it's in the Advanced section)

  3. Click Insert Image

This will open the Select Files to Upload dialog:

This dialog lets you choose image files from six (yes - 6 - really!) different locations:

Add Option #1 - My Device

Upload an image from your local device by either dragging one or more images into the Select Files... window, or clicking on the + icon to open your operating system's file selector.

Add Option #2 - Dropbox

To add images from Dropbox, you will first have to log in to your Dropbox account. The following screen is displayed initially:

Click Connect Dropbox and a new tab will open:

Log into your account and you will be able to navigate your Dropbox files and select one or more images to attach.

Add Option #3 - Google Drive

Add Option #4 - Facebook

To add images from Facebook, you also have to log in to your account. You will see this login screen:

Click Connect Facebook and a new tab will open. Log in with your Facebook credentials in the new tab that opens. Once authenticated you will be able to navigate your Facebook photos and select one or more images to attach.

Resizing and Positioning Images

SmartDoc images can be resized after adding them to the page by grabbing and dragging their left of right edge, like this:

Notice the toolbar that pops up in that video - it also contains image position controls.

You can pick from the following alignment options:

  1. Align Left - Aligns the image to the left of the SmartDoc and does not allow text to wrap around the image

  2. Align Center (default) - Aligns the image to the center of the SmartDoc and does not allow text to wrap around the image

  3. Align Right - Aligns the image to the right of the SmartDoc and does not allow text to wrap around the image

  4. Wrap Left - Aligns the image to the left of the SmartDoc and allows text to wrap around the right side of the image

  5. Wrap Right - Aligns the image to the left of the SmartDoc and allows text to wrap around the left side of the image - it looks like this:

Adding an image caption

You'll see in the image above that there is a caption directly under the image. You can add one easily in two different ways:

  1. Hover the image, click on the "write a caption" text and start typing

  2. Hover the image, click on the "T" icon and start typing

View Images Full Size

The images displayed directly within your SmartDoc can be resized, and they represent a scaled-down version of the original. To see the image(s) that you've attached full size, just click on the expand icon in the image toolbar:

A dialog will open that displays all of the images in your SmartDoc will open, which looks like this:

This view also allows you to do a few other things:

  1. Download the image file - Click on the 3-dot (...) menu to find a link to download the image

  2. See image properties - Click on the expand icon in the upper-right corner to see all of a file's details, like this:

Deleting an Image

If you don't need an image anymore (or have found a better one!) you can easily remove it from your SmartDoc:

  1. Click on the image to display the image toolbar

  1. Click the Trash Can icon (a "Delete" tooltip will show on hover)

The Image is instantly deleted. Decide you want it back? Just click Control-Z on your keyboard to undo the delete and get the whole Image back - intact!
