The Chart View widget puts a Chart view that already exists in a table onto a dashboard. Picture the chart you built in the table, shown again beside the other widgets, without setting it up a second time. The widget points at the saved view by name; the chart itself is built and changed in the table.
Here is the test: does the chart already exist as a Chart view in one of this solution's tables? If yes, add a Chart View widget. To build a new chart on the dashboard, from any table in the workspace, use a Chart widget instead; see Chart Widget.
Example: a Vendor Management solution with a Findings table. The Security lead built the Chart view Findings by severity in that table: a column chart with one column per Severity value and a benchmark line. On the Vendor risk overview dashboard, a Chart View widget titled Findings by severity shows that same view. Finance reads it at the monthly review without opening the table.

Adding a Chart View widget
Open the dashboard and set the View | Edit switch in the upper right to Edit.
Select + Add Widget in the toolbar. The Add New Widget sidebar opens on the right, with a Search Widget box and the widget categories.
Expand Views and select the Chart View card. Its info icon reads "Embed a Chart view in your dashboard."
The Chart View window opens. The live preview on the left reads "Select a Table and Chart Report for preview" until both are set. The settings sidebar is on the right, on one tab, General.
Pick the table and the saved Chart view as described below, then select Add Widget. Cancel closes the window without placing the widget.
The widget lands at half the row's width. There is no Save button on a dashboard: Add Widget is the commit. Drag the handle on its right or bottom edge to resize it; see Managing Widgets.
Note: The Chart View card is not the Chart widget. The cards under Charts, one per chart type, build a new chart from any table in the workspace. The Chart View card under Views shows a view that already exists. See Chart widget for the first; this article is the second.
The Chart View window in its empty state: the preview reads Select a Table and Chart Report for preview, and the sidebar shows Heading, Select Table and Select a report.
The widget settings
The General tab holds three sections: Heading, Settings and Buttons. The window's header holds a gear that hides or shows the sidebar, a three-dot More Options menu, a ? that opens help and an X. The widget has no chart settings of its own. The chart type, values, grouping, filter and colors all come from the saved view.
Heading
Title is the name shown in the widget's header. It starts as "Chart View". For the example, the title is Findings by severity. Description is a switch, off to start.
Table
Select Table lists the tables of the dashboard's own solution. There is no Source Select and no solution picker, so a Chart view from another solution cannot be shown this way. For the example, the table is Findings.
Chart Report
Select a report stays empty until a table is chosen, then lists that table's saved Chart views. Its info icon reads "Select the Chart type report you want to display." Pick one and the preview draws the view itself. A Clear x appears beside the chosen view to remove it. For the example, the report is Findings by severity.
When the view has no data to draw, the preview shows the view's own message instead of a chart. The message reads "No valid data in the field". A second line, "Based on the field(s) you've set there is no data to be displayed in the chart.", gives the reason.
Buttons
Add Button opens the shared Button Settings window, where you add a button to the widget's header. See View-based widget buttons.
Tip: Build and test the chart as a Chart view in the table first, with its filter, grouping and benchmark line. The widget then shows it by name and the chart is set up once. See Chart View.

Permissions
Solution Managers and members with Full Access add a Chart View widget to a public dashboard and change its settings. The owner does the same on a private dashboard. Every member who can open the dashboard sees the widget; see Dashboard Settings. The chart draws the records of the saved view. On a shared dashboard the widget shows to anyone with the link; see Public Dashboard Sharing.
Using the widget
In View mode the widget shows the saved Chart view as the table draws it: the same type, the same values and grouping, the same filter. When the view has no records to show, the widget carries the view's own message instead of a chart. How the chart itself behaves, with its legend, hover values and the records behind a bar, is described in Chart View.
For the example, Finance opens the Vendor risk overview and reads the Findings by severity columns. To change the chart, the Security lead edits the Chart view in the Findings table, not the widget.
Editing a Chart View widget
In Edit mode, hover over the widget. A strip appears in its header with a drag handle (Drag Widget), Move Up, Move Down, Edit and a three-dot More Options menu. Select Edit to reopen the window and pick another table or report. The three-dot menu holds Minimize, Highlight Color, Duplicate Widget, Export, Delete Widget and a Collapsed by Default checkbox. See Manage widgets on a dashboard.

A Chart widget builds a new chart on the dashboard from any table in the workspace, with its own settings. The Chart View widget shows a Chart view that already exists in a table of the dashboard's own solution and has no chart settings of its own.
Can I show a Chart view from another solution?
Can I show a Chart view from another solution?
No. Select Table lists only the tables of the dashboard's own solution. For a chart from another solution, add a Chart widget and pick the table in its Source Select.
Why is the Select a report list empty?
Why is the Select a report list empty?
Either no table is chosen yet, or the chosen table has no saved Chart view. Create the Chart view in the table first; see Chart View.
How do I change the chart's type or filter?
How do I change the chart's type or filter?
In the table, in the Chart view's Chart Settings. The widget has no chart settings of its own.
Why does the widget say there is no data?
Why does the widget say there is no data?
The saved view has no records to draw, because the table is empty or the view's filter leaves nothing. The message is the view's own and the widget shows it as the view would.
