Record comments widget

Show a record's comments, emails or both on a dashboard by connecting the Record Comments widget to a Record Selector widget.

Written by Emma Montgomery

A Record Comments widget shows the conversation on one record: its comments, its emails or both. The record is whichever one a viewer picks in a Record Selector widget on the same dashboard. The panel is the same one a record shows, so people read and reply as they do in the record.

The widget's card sits in the Add New Widget panel under Record Display and carries a badge in place of the info icon. It cannot be added today. Until it can, a record's comments reach a dashboard through the Show Comments icon of a Record Details widget; see Dashboards: Record Detail Widget.

Example: a Vendor Management solution with a Findings table. On the Vendor risk overview dashboard, a Record Selector lists the open findings. Beside it sits a Record Details widget called Selected finding. Procurement picks a finding and selects Show Comments to read the Security lead's notes.

Where the card is

  1. Open the dashboard and set the View | Edit switch in the upper right to Edit.

  2. Select + Add Widget in the toolbar. The Add New Widget panel opens at the right, with a Search Widget box and thirteen collapsible categories.

  3. Open the Record Display category. It holds Record Selector, Record Details, Record History, Record Comments and My Work. The last three carry a badge, have no info icon, and do not open a window when selected.

What the widget will show

The settings below are carried from the earlier version of this article. None of them could be read in the product on 30 Oct 2026.

  • Source: the Record Selector widget that provides the record. The widget shows the conversation of the first record in the selector's selection.

  • Show Comments and Show Emails: two switches. At least one stays on; when you turn one off, the other is locked on. With both on, the widget shows two tabs; with one on, a plain header.

  • Until a record is picked, the widget shows an illustration as a placeholder.

Note: These settings could not be followed in the product on 30 Oct 2026. If the card on your workspace opens a settings window, the widget is available to you and the settings above apply.

Reading comments on a dashboard today

Add a Record Selector and a Record Details widget on the same table; see Record Selector Widget and Dashboards: Record Detail Widget. In View mode, hover over the Record Details widget and select Show Comments. Comments follow the record's permissions: a viewer sees the comments they can see in the record itself.

Tip: Pair the selector and the details widget side by side. Picking a finding then changes the details and the comments together.
