Row and card size

Set the row height in Grid and Gantt views and the card size in Card and Kanban views from the toolbar Row Size control.

Written by Emma Montgomery

Row Size sets how tall each row is in a Grid or Gantt view. In a Card or Kanban view the same control sets how large each card is.

Here is the test: is text cut off, or is the view too long to scan? Change the size. To show or hide fields, use Fields to Display instead.

Example: a Vendor Management solution. The Findings grid is set to Auto Size so each Finding Description reads in full. The Findings board, a Kanban, uses Medium cards so the Severity pill and the Owner show. The Remediation plan, a Gantt, keeps its rows at Medium.

The Row Size list open on the Findings grid: S with a check mark, M, L, XL, Auto Size, and Need help under the list.

Opening Row Size

Row Size is the sixth control in the toolbar, with an icon of three lines. In a Grid view, select it and a short list opens: S, M, L, XL and Auto Size, with a Need help link under them. The current size carries a check mark; S is the default. A click applies the size at once and closes the list. The button shows no badge.

The sizes

The list depends on the view type: Row Size on a Grid or Gantt view, Card Size on a Card or Kanban view.

Grid

S, M, L, XL and Auto Size. S is the default, with rows 40 pixels tall. M, L and XL make every row taller by a fixed step. Auto Size grows each row to the height of its longest cell, so a long Text Area reads in full. A row with a paragraph of text was about six lines tall in the product read. The live article states that Auto Size also opens up Linked Record, Multiple Select and image fields.

Tip: Use Auto Size for a review grid of long text, such as finding descriptions, and S for a list you scan. The size is one click to change.

Card and Kanban

The control sets the card size. Larger cards show bigger image and document previews.

Permissions

Any member with access to a view can change the size and see the result. Full Access members and Solution Managers save it on a public view; with Autosave changes on it is saved as it is made. Every member saves it on their own private views. On a locked view the change lasts for your session only. See View Panel: create, organize and lock views and Locked Views.

Note: With Autosave on, a size change on a public view is saved for everyone the moment you make it. Switch the register to Auto Size and every reader's rows grow.

Using the size in each view type

  • Grid: every row takes the size. At Auto Size, rows differ in height by their content.

  • Gantt: the task rows on the left take the size.

  • Card and Kanban: every card takes the size, previews included. The live article states that card sizes are kept when you print or export the view.

  • Calendar, Timeline, Map, Chart, Form, Dashboard and Document: no size control.

The Grid line comes from the read; the other lines carry what the view type articles state.

Changing it later

Select Row Size and pick another size; the view updates at once. There is nothing to clear: a view always has a size, and S is the default on a grid.
