Before You Start

  • On a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu plan, a ChatGPT workspace admin may need to enable the SmartSuite app for your workspace first.

  • If your SmartSuite account uses multi-factor authentication, it must already be set up in SmartSuite.

Connect

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps.

  2. Search for SmartSuite and select it.

  3. Click Connect. You'll be taken to SmartSuite to sign in, including single sign-on if your organization uses it.

  4. Choose what the connection covers: which Workspaces ChatGPT may use, and whether it may write or read only. Read only is selected by default.

  5. Confirm. ChatGPT is connected.

For ChatGPT Workspace Admins

On Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, enable SmartSuite for your workspace from Workspace settings → Apps. Enterprise and Edu admins can also control which groups can use it and which actions are allowed.

Test the Connection

Start a new chat, select SmartSuite from the tools menu, and ask:

"List the Solutions in my SmartSuite Workspace."

Manage or Revoke the Connection

Open Settings → Apps, select SmartSuite, and disconnect. Reconnect to change which Workspaces it covers or to switch between read only and read & write.

Troubleshooting

Problem

What to do

SmartSuite doesn't appear in Apps

On Business, Enterprise or Edu, ask your ChatGPT admin to enable it.

A Workspace is missing from the list

Its MCP Access is set to Disabled. Ask a Workspace Administrator.

ChatGPT can read but changes are refused

Your connection is read only, or the Workspace's MCP Access is Read-Only. The stricter setting wins.

ChatGPT answers without using SmartSuite

Select SmartSuite from the tools menu in the chat, or mention SmartSuite by name.

Adding SmartSuite as a Custom App

ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu admins with developer mode enabled can also add SmartSuite as a custom app using the server URL https://app.smartsuite.com/v1/mcp with OAuth. See OpenAI's documentation on developer mode for the current steps.
