Why Use the Card View Widget?

The Card View Widget is ideal for scenarios where a visual representation of your data enhances understanding and engagement. It’s particularly useful for:

  • Project Managers: Track tasks, milestones, and resources at a glance.

  • Sales Teams: Display customer profiles, deal stages, and key account updates in a pipeline.

  • Creative Teams: Showcase design or marketing assets in one place.

  • HR Departments: Maintain and display employee details, team directories, or organizational charts.

Overview: What Is the Card View Widget?

The Card View Widget converts records into customizable “cards,” much like a standard Card View but embedded right on your dashboard. It’s especially useful for:

  • Quickly Browsing Records: Scan through data with cover images, important details, and eye-catching labels.

  • Interactive Editing: Click on a card (if enabled) to open the record’s modal and edit fields, add attachments, or update statuses.

  • Easy Grouping & Sorting: Arrange and reorganize your records by priority, category, pipeline stage, or any other field.

Adding & Configuring the Card View Widget

  1. Open Your Dashboard

    • Go to an existing dashboard or create a new one.

  2. Add a Widget

    • Click “+ Add Widget” (or equivalent) in your dashboard toolbar.

  3. Select “Card View”

    • From the widget library, choose Card View.

Configure the Widget

After you select Card View widget, you can configure the following options:

General

  • Title: Specify the display name of the widget.

  • Description: If you enable description, you can configure descriptive text that adds context to the widget. It can be configured to display in two ways:

    • As a Tooltip. This default option displays the text when an information icon is clicked.

    • Below the Title. When selected, the specified text will display under the widget's title.

  • Source: Select which Solution and Application house the records you want to display.

  • Settings. Configure additional display options for the widget, including:

    • Allow edit. Enable to allow users to add records to the table from the Card widget.

    • Display report toolbar options to members. Enable to allow users to configure report options when viewing the Card widget.

    • Allow users to open record details. When enabled, users can open all record details for the displayed cards.

Save & Add to Dashboard

  • Once set, your Card View Widget will appear on the dashboard.

  • Any edits you make (if you have permission) are saved automatically.

Working with the Card View Widget

Cover Images & Arranging Fields

  • Automatic Image Preview

    • If you have an image or file field, the widget can display it as a cover image.

    • Hovering over the cover image allows you to scroll through multiple attachments (if any).

    • Clicking an image enlarges it in a quick preview without opening the full record.

  • Arrange Fields for Clarity

    • Decide which fields to show on the front of each card (e.g., Name, Owner, Status).

    • Drag and drop fields in the widget’s settings to reorder them as needed.

Adjusting Card Size

  • Small: Compact display of minimal details—great for large data sets.

  • Medium: Strikes a balance, showing key fields and images.

  • Large: An expanded layout, perfect for displaying more fields or larger images.

Grouping & Reordering Cards

  • Group Records: Group by status, category, priority, or any other field to cluster similar records.

  • Drag & Drop: Easily reorder cards within or across groups by dragging them to a new spot.

Customization Options

  • Fields to Display: Choose which fields (title, status, etc.) appear on each card.

  • Cover Image: This option, displayed within "fields to Display," allows selection of a field that contains images or files to be shown at the top of the card. Note that this option is only displayed if the referenced table contains a files and images field.

  • Card Size: Decide between Small, Medium, or Large card layouts (or set specific widget width/height).

  • Filter, Group and Highlight: Show or hide filters, grouping, sorting options, and spotlights.

Saving, Permissions & Editing

  • Instant Saving

    • Widget settings are saved automatically if you have permission to edit the dashboard.

  • Record-Level Permissions

    • Editing, creating, or deleting records in the Card View depends on the permissions of the underlying app.

    • Users without dashboard editing rights can still update records if they have permission in the app, but can’t alter widget settings.

  • Switching View Types

    • Switching between Card, Grid, Calendar, or Gantt from the widget preserves as many settings (filters, sorting, fields) as possible.
