Field settings in SmartSuite allow users to customize and manage fields within their tables. This guide explains how to access field settings, why certain icons may not appear, and how to use workarounds for specific scenarios.
Icons are missing in Page Settings: check these three things, in order
Work down the list; each item links the section that explains it. If you cannot open Page Settings, send this page to the person who manages the solution.
The table has one tab. Move to Tab, Field Permissions and Field Settings appear in Page Settings > Fields only when the record view has more than one tab. See Conditional Display of Icons.
The workaround. Add a second tab and hide it with a Display Logic condition that is never true; the icons then appear. See Workarounds for Accessing Hidden Features.
The field menu. Hover over the field title and open its three-dot menu for the field settings. See Accessing Field Settings.
Still stuck: select the chat button in the lower-right corner of SmartSuite. The last block of the panel shows the service status, and Send a message in the same panel reaches support. Include the solution and table names and the icon you expected. Page Settings are described in Record View: open and lay out a record.
Accessing Field Settings
To access field settings in SmartSuite:
Hover over the title of the field you want to modify.
Click the three-dot menu that appears next to the field title.
Select the desired field settings option from the menu.
Conditional Display of Icons
Some icons, such as "Move to Tab," "Field Permissions," and "Field Settings," may not appear in the Page Settings > Fields section for certain tables. This behavior occurs because these icons are only available when a table has more than one tab in its record view. If a table has only one tab, these options are hidden since they are tied to multi-tab layouts.
Workarounds for Accessing Hidden Features
If you need to access Field Permissions or Field Settings but your table has only one tab, you can use the following workaround:
Add a second tab to your table.
Use Display Logic to hide the second tab from users: - Navigate to Page Settings > Display Logic. - Create a condition that is never true (e.g., set a filter on a field that is always empty).
This approach keeps the second tab hidden while enabling access to the Field Permissions and Field Settings icons in Page Settings > Fields.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Icons Not Visible: Ensure your table has more than one tab to display the "Move to Tab," "Field Permissions," and "Field Settings" icons.
Hidden Tabs: Use Display Logic to manage tab visibility without losing access to important settings.
By following these steps and tips, you can effectively manage and troubleshoot field settings in SmartSuite.
