AI Control Center: Providers and Models

Written by Piercen Reid

The AI Control Center is the central home for every AI connection in your workspace. All LLM connections live in one place, managed by Workspace Admins. Admins set up a provider key once, see exactly where it's used, and let others reuse it across multiple solutions — so there's no need to re-enter API keys for each feature.

Where to Find It

Go to Workspace Administration → AI Control Center and open the Providers and Models section.

Any connections previously configured in your workspace are preserved and shown in this list, so nothing is lost when the AI Control Center is introduced.

The SmartSuite Trial Connection

Every workspace ships with a SmartSuite Trial connection already in the list. It offers 100 free requests and requires no API key. You can't edit it, but you can disable or delete it at any time.

Adding a Connection

Click to add a new connection and configure it:

  1. Select the provider and model. This is the same picker used in Automations (for example, the latest Opus by Anthropic).

  2. Paste your API key.

  3. Name the connection (for example, "Risk Assessment") and add an optional description.

  4. Choose whether to enable Internet access. If the selected model doesn't support browsing, this option is turned off automatically.

  5. Test the connection. SmartSuite sends a test prompt to the model and shows you the result. If the connection is healthy, the Test button becomes Next; if it fails, adjust your configuration and try again.

  6. Choose where the connection can be used. By default it applies to all solutions, or you can narrow it to selected solutions (for example, only Vendor Management and Incidents Management).

  7. Enable features for this connection. Toggle AI Workflow Agent and AI Field Agent independently — enable either or both.

  8. Click Add Connection.

The Connections List

At a glance, each connection shows its:

  • Name

  • Provider and model

  • Enabled features

  • Number of solutions it covers

  • Active status (active or not)

Usage and Activity Log

Every connection has a usage and activity log with two tabs:

  • Used In — shows exactly where the connection is live.

  • Activity History — shows every API call, including the feature, solution, date, and execution result.

Enabling AI Features at the Workspace Level

The AI Control Center also lets admins turn AI-related features on or off for the whole workspace. For example, opening the AI Field Agent configuration shows a toggle that enables the feature globally, along with a list of the connections where field agents are turned on.

Using a Connection in AI Workflow Agents and AI Field Agents

When you set up an AI Workflow Agent or an AI Field Agent, you'll see a Select Connection dropdown. It lists only the connections that are active for that solution and that feature — pick the connection (and model) you want the agent to run on.
